I had the chance to get involved with the local community by participating and assisting at two events: Camp Connect I & II and Water Summer Camp supported by UCF. It was great to collaborate to this integration between the work developed at the university and the students. I also had the great opportunity of going to field trips, where I was able to assist with data collection and actually see how the data collection process was done. I could see the challenges involved in equipment use and the disturbances that the environment may imply in a data collection (such as curious fishes and manatees). Another great point of the field trip was that our study area was in a beautiful reserve owning a richness of fauna and flora, and being just a step of a restful beach.
More than receiving a great experience of participating in a research project at UCF, being for this summer also allowed me to know a group of friends who were very welcome and kind. So, around two months ago I didn’t know much about flow alteration and all of the work that was being developed in this field. Now, knowing the importance of the work that the Kibler Ecohydraulics lab are developing I feel grateful for having this experience.
